Ring in the New Year with a $343 million Mega Millions jackpot

The most I've ever won on those tickets is $5...How about you? Then you got these gals in Arkansas...

I guess you CAN put a price on friendship.

A woman named Mandy Vanhouten works as a waitress in Stuttgart, Arkansas.  Her best friend, Leslie Underwood, also works there.

Well . . . last week, their boss gave them each five lottery scratchers for Christmas.  According to Leslie, he said that whatever they won they'd split as their Christmas bonus.

And when Mandy scratched off one of her tickets, she won the grand prize:  $300,000.  She and Leslie were THRILLED and they agreed they'd cash it in after New Year's.

At least . . . Leslie agreed to that plan.  Mandy had other ideas, and she went to cash in the ticket herself.  Now she's not showing up at work and not returning Leslie's calls.

Leslie says she's planning on taking legal action if Mandy doesn't give her half of the money, but it could be tough . . . since Mandy is the only one who signed the back of the ticket and there's really no proof of their agreement to split it.

What's the weather going to be like this winter? Well if you're hoping for mild and warm, you may be disappointed in the weather outlook from Al Dutcher, State Climatologist with UNL. Farmers, businessmen and others interested in what we'll see this winter came to Dutcher's presentation at the Columbus Chamber of Commerce on Thursday.
Al started out his presentation by reviewing how the weather has been so far this fall and winter, and compared it to last year. This year’s La Nina event is much stronger than last year and expected to last longer.
Many people have commented on the recent stretch of dry weather we've been seeing in our region of Nebraska as of late, but Dutcher explained we received almost all of our fall precipitation during the month of October.
Al said the La Nina pattern will keep dry conditions south of Nebraska, which will continue to expand the  drought in those areas.
Dutcher says when looking at the La Nina event that we are currently experie…

Flu Is Here

The flu has hit many families, schools, and businesses this winter with a nasty strain that has been deadly at times.  The nastiness that is the flu has even hit many of us here at the old radio ranch.  While there may not be a way to absolutely prevent you from getting flu, the CDC does offer some great tips on how to prevent it.  Good luck and stay healthy!
